Cluttered ... Cluttered backgrounds don't usually work well for detailed extractions. There are ways to do it if there is good contrast between the foreground and background. You can blend multiple alpha channels. This is much more complicated than the technique in this video and really can't summed up in a short response here.
The best solution is tho shoot the photo with a solid colored background if you are wanting to extract it. The results will be much? better with less work.
